Taupe album launch + Dee Byrne & Cath Roberts + Christos Stylianides solo

Glasgow-based trio Taupe have their album launch at The Horse Hospital, joined by Dee Byrne & Cath Roberts, as well as a solo set by Christos Stylianides

Doors 7pm
Tickets: £8-12

Taupe are a Glasgow-based trio whose free(math)avant(skronk) concoctions fuse sour sonics, effervescent improvisation, and sludgy, doom-laden riffage into a sound both unruly and sharply honed. Often seeming to operate by a kind of spooky telekinesis, they pivot from turbulent, unwieldy chaos into taut, metronomic precision, cultivating an approach that feels both volatile and vividly alive. Steeped in a DIY ethos, Taupe balance wonky charm with exacting focus, bridging the no-wave disorder of DNA or James Chance with the squeaky-clean intricacy of groups like goat (jp) and Horse Lords, all while maintaining an anarchic spirit that takes any pretensions out to the woodshed. This is the London stop of the release tour for their new album 'waxcing | waning', out on Prague label Minority Records. taupetaupetaupe.com

Dee Byrne and Cath Roberts have worked together since 2013 across a range of creative collaborations: co-organising performances, tours and festivals under the banner of LUME, co-running the artist-led label Luminous, and performing together in numerous ensembles. In 2019, the two began playing improvised duo sets around London. Stripping the instrumentation back to alto and baritone saxophones created a sparse, intimate setting, allowing for a wide expressive range—from minimalist textures to full-throttle, high-energy exchanges. A series of short acoustic improvisations in this format led to the album Disembark! which was released on Luminous in September 2020 in digital and cassette formats. Various live performances followed, notably at Summer Bummer Festival 2023 in Antwerp, Belgium. A new album reflecting a growing interest in electronics is in progress, with Cath swapping their baritone saxophone on that recording for a Lyra-8 synthesiser. With the upcoming album release in 2026, the duo looks forward to further expanding their palette by experimenting with a blend of synths, samples, effects pedals and acoustic instruments.
