SÉANCE weaves music, poetry, ritual and performance into a conceptual conjuring for our time. The effects of this séance spread slowly and widely. Reanimating selections from Tamalyn Miller’s album Ghost Pipe, cello, voice and handmade horsehair fiddlecome together to summon and transmit mysterious melodies and messages, Victorian parlor game meets psychedelic folk in this tour of thresholds populated by poisonous plants.
Tamalyn Miller is a multi-media artist who traverses the realms of music, sound, visual curiosities, words, hypnosis and wonder As a musician and sound practitioner, she invents sonic worlds with wounded instruments and objects found in nature. Tamalyn records and performs solo and with the chamber ambient duo Spirit Radio and improvisational sound ensembles. In 2024, she released a solo album, Ghost Pipe, and Spirit Radio released their second album, both of which were also produced as handmade limited art editions. Cellist Irman Peck is a multi-instrumentalist composer, improviser and producer of both traditional and abstract music and has been involved in live performance since 1975. Based in Philadelphia, PA, he has played and toured with numerous musicians including Tracy Lisk, Al Margolis and Walter Wright amongst others. Aft-Err is a stripped down manifestation of the band Bones and the Aft featuring John Bently on words and costumes and his son Arthur Bently on home made sounds, clarinet and saxophone. Scavenging sounds and imagery discarded in the gutters of the city, Aft-Err are observational, polemic, mythic, impassioned. commemorative, celebratory, narrative and seem to be following in the ignoble tradition of the Pamphleteers, the Ranters, and the Penny Balladeers of old…..
Bird Radio is the musical stage-name of London-based multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer Mikey Kirkpatrick. Described by critics as "folk-horror of the darkest hue," Bird Radio combines a soaring vocal delivery with driving bass drum rhythms, double flutes and spellbinding, loop-pedal flute arrangements. Drawing inspiration from ancient folklore, poetry, and experimental theater, his performances are hypnotic, deeply theatrical rituals that blur the line between ancient storytelling and modern experimental folk.
