Join artist and performer MOTHERBOARD (Kyle Kidd) for Queer Sonic Liberation—an embodied lecture and participatory sound workshop that explores how music, voice, and reflection can become profound tools for queer self-recognition and liberation.

Drawing from personal experience and the legacy of queer icons like disco legend Sylvester, this session invites participants to consider how sound and music mirror our identities, shape our inner landscapes, and create space for radical self-acceptance. Through storytelling, mindful listening, and vocal exercises rooted in mirroring and collective resonance, the workshop offers a gentle yet transformative encounter with your own voice.

Queer Sonic Liberation is both a conceptual exploration and a lived experience:
• Lecture: Discover how sonic expression can reflect and affirm queer identity, offering new ways to understand legacy, visibility, and self-love.
• Mindfulness & Sound: Engage in guided breathwork and vocal reflection to explore the relationship between sound and presence.
• Mirroring Exercises: In supportive pairings and group moments, use simple vocal exchange to build shared listening, care, and creative connection.
• Collective Resonance: Close the session with a collaborative sound experience that highlights the power of queer voice in community.

Whether you are a musician, a lover of sound, or someone simply curious about the intersections of identity, art, and voice, this workshop invites you to listen deeply, speak freely, and sound yourself into being.

No previous singing experience required—this is about presence, not performance. Presented in the inspiring and inclusive space of The Horse Hospital, Queer Sonic Liberation champions creative expression as a site of freedom, reflection, and collective resonance.

MOTHERBOARD is the newly unveiled artistic persona of Kyle Kidd (all pronouns), created to explore a bold fusion of spiritual tradition, experimental sound, and contemporary electronic music. This project represents a new direction in Kidd’s artistry—immersive, expansive, and grounded in the belief that sound can shift emotion, energy, and atmosphere.

Drawing inspiration from Chaka Khan, Grace Jones, Mahalia Jackson, Sylvester, and The Clark Sisters, MOTHERBOARD blends gospel, jazz, soul, blues, ambient, post-punk, house, and electronic music into a distinctive sonic identity. Building on Kidd’s rich vocal foundation, the project introduces new rhythmic structures, production styles, and electronic textures shaped by both club culture and black sonic lineage.

Following the release of Kidd’s debut album Soothsayer (2022), which showcased layered, emotionally resonant songwriting and performance, MOTHERBOARD expands this work into a fuller, future-focused sound that embraces movement, atmosphere, and the power of voice over electronic sonics. Beyond solo work, Kidd is also the creative force behind Saint Just and Black Lazarus, projects that explore collaborative and experimental terrains—melding improvisational jazz, post-punk intensity, and electronic textures to push the boundaries of contemporary sound. These projects complement MOTHERBOARD’s ethos, emphasizing both sonic exploration and communal performance energy.

Beyond recorded music, MOTHERBOARD extends into multi-sensory performance, combining stylized video, fashion, and movement to create experiences that feel both grounded and visionary. Kidd has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, NPR Tiny Desk, and The Lot Radio, and has performed at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, SXSW, Le Guess Who (NL), and Big Ears Festival. Collaborative work includes projects with Moor Mother, Irreversible Entanglements, Algiers, San Cha, Badger (London), and Christoph Winkler Dance Company (Berlin).

MOTHERBOARD marks a new frontier in Kyle Kidd’s creative journey—where electronic rhythm, vocal power, and emotional clarity converge to shape a sound built for connection, movement, and sonic portals of possibilities.
