THE GINGER LIGHT

Doors 7:30 £5

The Ginger Light is a musical collaboration between the acclaimed, some say legendary, poet Jeremy Reed and the musician and producer Itchy Ear and is an attempt to blur the boundaries that exist between spoken word, music, sound design and song. Together they create a performance dynamic unparalleled in British poetry and an excitement usually only generated by pop.

Since forming in 2008, the Ginger Light have performed regularly at a wide variety of venues across London. In July '09, they headlined a sell-out poetry event at the ICA and, in October that year, they participated in the Serpentine Gallery poetry marathon alongside Brian Eno, Gilbert and George, among others.

This year the Ginger Light have played at Bistroteque in Bethnal Green; the Horse Hospital; the Polari night at the South Bank Centre; at Richard Strange's relaunched Cabaret Futura; the Mustard Club in Kentish Town; Dalston Superstore; Tenderpixel Gallery, Cecil Court, and Vogue Fabrics. They return to the Horse Hospital this November.

Jeremy Reed is a prolific British poet and writer who has published over 40 books, which, as well as his own award-winning poetry and fiction, include work on Scott Walker, Lou Reed, Elvis Presley, Billy Holliday and Arthur Rimbaud. His most recent publications are “West End Survival Kit” (Waterloo Press, 2009) “The King of Carnaby Street: A Life of John Stephens” (Hause Publishing, 2010) and “Bona Drag” (Shearsman Books, 2009). Jeremy's latest books“Piccadilly Bongo” which is accompanied by a four-track CD by Marc Almond and a book of sci-fi poems "Honey I Need" with an introduction by JG Ballard appear later this year.

Some of the awards Jeremy has won include the Somerset Maugham prize for poetry and his writing has been hailed by figures as diverse as writers and poets JG Ballard, Seamus Heaney, Kathleen Raine, John Ashbery, David Gascoyne, James Merill, and musicians Richard Hell, Bjork and Pete Doherty.

JG Ballard described Jeremy Reed’s writing as "almost extraterrestrial in its brilliance. He is Rimbaud reconfigured as the Man who fell to Earth, a visitor from deep space whose time machine was designed by Lautreamont and de Sade, and powered by the most exotic fuels the imagination has ever devised."
