The London Underground Film Festival is proud to present the London premiere of SAVAGE WITCHES, a new feature film by Daniel Fawcett and Clara Pais.
SAVAGE WITCHES is a playful and experimental feature film co-created by Daniel Fawcett and Clara Pais. Strongly infuenced by the films of the Czech New Wave, particularly Daisies by Vera Chytilova, and the short films of the American underground filmmakers, the Kuchar Brothers, it is a colourful expressive film that makes use of multiple formats, from VHS, HD, Super 8, slide film and disposable cameras to drawn and puppet animation.
SAVAGE WITCHES is an ode to cinema, to the magic of cinema, to filmmaking as an art form and as a tool for expression, exploration and transformation. This One+One Filmmakers Journal screening and roundtable, in association with the London Underground Film Festival, brings together a number of young film theorists to discuss new approaches to the study, reception and criticism of pornography.
Screening and discussion starts promptly at 2pm. Please arrive early.
Due to the explicit nature of the material, this is an adult only event.
Our participants, which include legal scholars, bloggers and academics, offer vital and subversive ways of considering pornography's central theoretical nodes like power, transgression, bodily integrity, intimacy and censorship. Moving beyond tired pro/anti debates which stymied intelligent debate in previous decades, our speakers confront pornography obliquely in all its problematic, perverse, and ubiquitous glory offering new coordinates for life in a pornified world.
Dominic Fox: Poet, blogger and author of "Cold World: The Aesthetics of Dejection and the Politics of Militant Dysphoria" (2010)
Alex Dymock: PhD candidate at the School of Law at University of Reading, with research interests in criminal law, feminist and queer approaches to justice, and the history of sexuality.
Sarah Harman: Film PhD candidate at Brunel's Screen Media research department examining pornographic adaptations, and has written on Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey, The Story of O and Quills.
Frances Hatherley: Doctoral candidate at Birkbeck, research includes the grotesque feminine in contemporary visual cultures.

Through a veil of glitz and glamour, Angel Rose uses performance and video to express her own demented philosophy - one that is often macabre, sometimes comical – but always entertaining. The London Underground Film Festival's 2012 programme includes a selection of her short films for your delectation.
Hailing from Hollywood, California, Angel Rose moved to London to pursue a lifestyle of creativity and debauchery. While studying at Goldsmiths, she began producing video vignettes that showcase her spoken word performance as well as her bold gothic style. Ritual 1 The archaic understanding of the word glamour is “a magical spell or charm.” In Ritual 1, Angel Rose seeks to cast this spell, by way of the world’s most widely used fetish item – money. As an introduction, we are welcomed into “The Pink Palace Cult” as she recites the initiation rites and Amanda Lear's satanic prayer, Follow Me. Angel Rose is then mummified in dollar bills, and worshiped by a gang of dragged-up death gods. She has re-imagined this ancient Egyptian ceremony into a vision of glamour, excess and hysteria.

Terrormisu! Terrormisu!, a collaboration between Angel Rose and Josh Quinton, features an all-star cast of clubland personalities from past till present. Not only does the film star London’s current creatures of the night, but also, a few living legends of the Blitz era; a cross-generational nod to the scene that started it all. Adorned with surreal creations from Carianne Moore and milliner Mich Dulce, we witness this cast of creeps collectively summon “The Spirit” (played by Daniel Lismore) to the table. Thus we are served a perfect metaphor that echoes the ethos of the film: celebration of a community that embraces the creative spirit.
The Green Carnation In this video, we see Angel Rose’s disembodied head play the part of a traditional horror host a la Elvira – but with a twist - as her beautiful assistant, played by Josh Quinton, gazes on despondently. Angel Rose adopts a ghostly green countenance created by Illamasqua make up artist Mika Johnson for her role as dead diva, alluding to the idea of an undead Whitney or Amy. However, when we see her decapitated body lounging on its drugged out deathbed, the lovesick plea of “having nobody” becomes a visual play on words.

LUFF presents a retrospective of the last ten years of work by Italian film-maker Davide Pepe, whose collaboration with Diamanda Galas, "Schrei 27", screened earlier this year at the Southbank Centre.
ABOUT DAVIDE PEPE Davide Pepe was born in Puglia, in Ceglie Messapica in 1970 and he lives and works in Bologna. Since 1995, Davide Pepe has been developing, filming and producing artistic short films, music and dance videos. His most recent feature is "The Fallen Body", an artistic documentary, commissioned by Beatrice Bulgari's Cultural Association, "Corto Arte Circuito", on the installation of the Antony Gormley "Vessel"
exhibition at the Galleria Continua of San Gimignano. Pepe has worked with Diamanda Galas, David Tibet (Current 93), and Steven Stapleton (Nurse With Wound), amongst others.

LA.Zombie is a hardcore zombie splatter/gore porn movie. As the credits roll, an alien zombie creature (international porn star and model Francois Sagat) emerges from the Pacific Ocean. After getting picked up in the mountains by a surfer in a truck, a severe accident occurs that results in the surfer lying dead in the middle of the road. The alien zombie fucks the dead man back to life. Like a kind of dark saviour, the alien zombie proceeds to find various dead men in the Greater Los Angeles area - a white collar criminal, a gangbanger, a homeless junkie, a group of drug-addicted porn stars - and fuck them back to life.
Bruce LaBruce is a Toronto based filmmaker, writer, director, photographer, and artist. He began his career in the mid eighties making a series of short experimental super 8 films and co-editing a punk fanzine called J.D.s, which begat the queercore movement. He has directed and starred in three feature length movies, "No Skin Off My Ass" (1991), "Super 8 1/2" (1994), and "Hustler White" (1996). More recently he has directed two art/porn features, “Skin Flick” (2000)(hardcore version: “Skin Gang”) and “The Raspberry Reich” (2004)(hardcore version: “The Revolution Is My Boyfriend”), and the independent feature “Otto; or, Up with Dead People” (2008). After premiering at Sundance and Berlin, “The Raspberry Reich” took off on the international film festival circuit, playing at over 150 festivals, including the Istanbul, Guadalajara, and Rio de Janeiro International Film Festivals. He was also honoured with retrospectives at the end of ’05 at the Madrid and Hong Kong Gay and Lesbian Film Festivals. “Otto; or, Up with Dead People” also debuted at Sundance and Berlin and played at over 150 film festivals, culminating in a screening at MoMA in New York City in November of 2008. His new film, L.A. Zombie, starring French star Francois Sagat, premiered in competition at the Locarno International Film Festival in August, 2010.
