The Grotesque and its etymology:
now most commonly used to describe something that is disgusting and horrifying, it was previously understood to describe the spectrum between humour and terror. The Grotesque exists in the spaces between the comic and the frightening, the gaps created by distortion of the natural into something other.
Curated by artist James Lincoln.
