An evening that moves between embodied rhythm, disembodied choreography, and live improvisation, featuring The Drum Also Dances and Breath Quartet

Presence and absence collapse into one field. The work sits between performance, sound art, and speculative choreography, asking where dance exists when the body disappears.
DANCE NOT DANCE imagines and portrays what choreography looks like both with and without dancers: when movement is spoken, heard, and imagined rather than seen. Through percussion, dance, voice, text, and electronic sound, the work unfolds as a layered environment in which the audience and their individual experience becomes the eventual site of the dance.
Featuring The Drum Also Dances (Freddie Krone, drums and Zac Priestley, dance) and Breath Quartet (Marcus Herne and Margot Wilson), the evening moves between embodied rhythm, disembodied choreography, and live improvisation. The two groups will come together for a collaborative piece at the end of the evening.
The Drum Also Dances approaches percussion as movement, positioning rhythm as a physical and spatial force. Their work bridges jazz (part inspired and dedicated to drummer Max Roach), improvisation, and contemporary performance - derived from modern Kenyan music.

Breath Quartet create immersive performances that explore breath, voice, and sound as shared experience. Their work combines live electronic composition, vocal practice, and embodied performance, moving between ritual, concert, and experimental theatre.
