Concrete Atlantis present: Jodrell Atomic with James Fry, The New and Malcolm Garrett

Dark-edged spoken word from Cheshire cats, lively talk about space age buildings in the footballer belt and live music for dancing to astronomical architecture.

Doors: 7pm

Tickets: £10 advance, £13 on the door

In his book Jodrell Atomic, James Fry explored his relationship with the prosaic suburban Cheshire he grew up in, at odds with the hypermodern Lovell Telescope located close by. Composed of photographs and text that paired the sleepy British county with Japan's Fuji National Park and the majestic Mount Fuji itself, Jodrell Atomic spawned a soundtrack album by The Pre-New that featured contributions from Luke Haines, Drealise and Quartermass 3.

Fry will present readings from the book with electronic musical accompaniment from The New, The Pre-New’s errant offspring.

Malcolm Garrett is known for his iconic record sleeve covers of the 1970s and 1980s, for Buzzcocks, Duran Duran and Peter Gabriel amongst others. He was born and raised in Northwich, Cheshire and in the shadow of the ICI’s Winnington Works. In conversation he’ll be discussing the influence of this industrial landscape on his design work.
