Join us to celebrate Canal’s fresh releases in fiction and poetry, and the latest edition of Canal magazine, with readings and performances by Alice Channer, Gizem Okulu, Hannah Regel, Rachel Pimm, Madeleine Stack, Rebecca Close, Sascha A. Akhtar, Penny Goring and Fer Boyd.

Canal is a co-operative queer press and bilingual magazine in English and Spanish that supports radical, errant and experimental work by researchers, artists and poets.

This winter, Canal will release Frot the World by Fer Boyd, Réplica by Rebecca Close, and Chaos Rehearsals by Madeleine Stack. Together these books run through crumbling streets, pocketing trinkets, dodging recognition, and holding possibilities up to the light. True loves, queer families and boozing jesters move through a labyrinth of bureaucracy and miracles, talking back to the state in ways that are psychedelic, satirical, ancient, animal and human, getting it waterlogged with their words. The books scream with bare feet going plat-plat on the palimpsests of pub carpets, something more than capitalism is already here!

This event also marks the UK launch of the third issue of Canal magazine, a fermentation of voices containing beating wisdom teeth, motherly disguises, kweer swimmers, butch elegance and nuclear silhouettes, which features the work of Alice Channer, Mane Ferret, Hannah Regel, Ellen van Neerven, Gabriela Torres Olivares, Annika Sohlman, Penny Goring, Noèlia Díaz Vicedo, Gizem Okulu, Rachel Pimm and Lola Clavo, with many of these writers translated into English for the first time.

*If you want to come but can’t buy a ticket, email us canalsux@gmail.com and we’ll put you on the list for free, no questions asked. The event will be seated (padded seats), and there will be room to stand at the back if you prefer. Transcripts of texts being performed will be available wherever possible. There will be a pay bar and free snacks.
