"Nature does not know extinction; all it knows is transformation. Everything science has taught me, and continues to teach me, strengthens my belief in the continuity of our spiritual existence after death."

- Werner von Braun, from Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon

Louis Benassi was one of the most engaged and distinctive artist/film-makers and countercultural event producers of his generation. In his work and life, he drew on experimental and radical movements such as Dadaism, Fluxus, Lettrism, Situationism and Expanded Cinema. His films – single and multi-screen collages combining Free Cinema-style heightened realism with radical graphics, found footage and sonic interventions – were screened across Europe, and his many remarkable events took places in galleries, squats, found spaces and underground venues, including the Horse Hospital.

Marking one year since his untimely early death in late 2020, this tribute event features films, readings, performances, music, images, memories and more from many of his friends and collaborators. Instinctively collaborative, committed to a singular expression in the service of collective solidarity, Louis remains much missed, while his example continues equally strongly as energy and measure for us all.
