Remote Control

Friday 13th November – Saturday 5th December 1998A major exhibition of drawings by the American visionary artist Laurie Lipton. Featuring seminal works from her solo shows in San Francisco and New York in the early 80’s alongside recent drawings and limited edition lithographs.

Lipton’s pencil drawings occupy a space between the stage and the screen, dramatically capturing what seem like whole feature films in one freeze-frame of complex psychological narrative. Intense emotions are meticulously rendered in large-scale monochrome works that sing with colour as the pencil replaces the paint brush and palette, and the artist’s eye turns inward with extreme clinical precision.
