Annabel Frearson (b. 1968, UK) rearranges existing cultural objects into new relationships in a method that could be described as dialogical. Her ongoing project, Frankenstein2… aims to use all and only the words from Mary Shelley’s 1831 novel Frankenstein to create a series of works that to-date include performed readings, an album of pop songs, a film of movie titles, and a novel in progress.
Frearson has participated in exhibitions and events including at Camden Arts Centre; LUX/ICA Biennial of Moving Images; Arnolfini, Bristol; V&A Museum; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; Whitechapel Gallery; Haifa Museum of Art, Israel, and Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery, Reno, USA. In 2012 Frearson had a solo show at xero, kline & coma in London. She also currently holds an AHRC fellowship to complete a PhD in art practice at Goldsmiths College.
Liam Wright-Higgins (b. 1985) combines conventions of the absurd and the uncanny with strategies indigenous to theatres, amusement parks and torture chambers. Working predominantly in performance, architectural intervention and weaponised costume, Higgins creates fever-dream environments and troubling relational dynamics, exploring notions of communication, synergy and control.
Holly Slingsby (b. 1983) based in London. Graduated from the Slade School of Art, London 2010; and Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University, 2006. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at SHIFT, London, 2012; and performances at the ICA, London, 2012; the Barbican, London, 2011; and Modern Art Oxford, 2010.
Alice Theobald (b. 1985) makes performance, music, installation and video directly referencing the nature of their fabrication. Attempting to overturn accepted concepts of sincerity, spectacle and emotion Alice uses role-play, melodrama and rehearsal by way of addressing the binaries between cliche and collective empathy, the constructed and the real and the fine line between being “moved” and being manipulated, both physically and emotionally. These concerns and the vulnerability of representation is enacted through a serious frivolity that challenges the push and pull of the audience’s expectations, simultaneously exposing the ephemeral nature of “the event” and mediation of its documentation.
Alice Theobald is an artist living and working in London, currently completing the postgraduate program in Fine Art at The Royal Academy Schools and graduated from Goldsmiths, Fine Art and Contemporary Critical Studies in 2007. Recent group exhibitions, performances and screenings include: The Royal Academy of Arts, London; The ICA, Singapore; And/Or Gallery, London; Vilma Gold, London and 113 Dalston Arts Space, London.
