The Drift Fright channels forwards and backwards, a sinister whiff of presence. In the walls, are Fault Lines, Time loops in the same corridor.

Held in the Gardner Room at Atlantis Bookshop, a portal in City channels, the reading salon will focus on embodied female practices of resistance and mysticism, and seek to locate equivalent contemporary forms of feminist embodied protest.

Following a short presentation from SS-J, the group will collectively engage with selected extracts from Caliban & the Witch by Silvia Federici and the medieval visionary writings of English mystic Margery Kempe, The Book of Margery Kempe. As well as examining heretical and occult practice in early/late Capitalism and its concurrent usurpation as a commodity, the reading salon will be an occasion to collectively undertake an attunement to the sinister undercurrents running below the surface of capitalist social relations, as an existent form waiting to be weaponized.

No prior reading necessary. The texts will be made available on the evening.

Psychic Communities is a programme of exhibitions and events curated by Letitia Calin and Sholto Dobie at The Horse Hospital, looking at community-forming mechanisms that operate beyond verbal and visual transmission through sensual, spiritual, embodied or tacit forms of connection.

As part of the programme, The Horse Hospital will host Drift Fright a one-week residency for artists New Noveta, Elena Bushueva and Sophie Sleigh-Johnson to consider how anxiety and other invisible disabilities can be made perceivable and explore their mediation through sensory performance practices, bodies and audio-visual technology.
